Your Questions,
Answered
Everything you need to know about our coffee, our roasting, and ordering from us. Can’t find what you need? Just ask.
Do you roast your own coffee?
Yes — every batch is roasted by us in small quantities, right here in Cape Town. We roast to order wherever possible, so your coffee arrives at its freshest. No shelves. No sitting around.
How fresh is the coffee I’ll receive?
We roast in small batches and dispatch within a few days of the roast date. For espresso roasts, we recommend resting 5–7 days after roasting. For bean to cup machines about 4 days is the minimum and for filter, 2–3 days is sufficient (although for very light roasts, and certain processing methods such as anaerobic natural fermentations, we recommend at least 3-5 weeks to let flavours “settle”). The roast date is printed on every bag so you know exactly what you’re getting.
What grind size should I choose?
We offer Whole Bean, French Press (coarse), Filter (medium), Moka Pot / AeroPress (medium fine) and espresso (fine). If you’re unsure, Whole Bean is most versatile if you have your own grinder or bean to cup machine — grinding fresh makes a bigger difference than most people expect. Ask us for a recommendation for your specific setup. You can also click one of the social message buttons below to ask us quickly during checkout
Where do you deliver?
We deliver across Cape Town and the Western Cape, and to the rest of South Africa via courier. Delivery fees are calculated at checkout based on your suburb — and orders above certain thresholds qualify for free delivery.
How long does delivery take?
Local Cape Town deliveries always run on Thursdays and/or Fridays. Courier deliveries elsewhere in South Africa may take 2–5 business days. We’ll send tracking details once your order is on its way.
Do you offer subscriptions?
YES! Visit our subscription site here. We recommend subscriptions over single basket checkouts because it saves you money on every bag of beans and its a great deal more convenient. There’s no back-forth between you and us on Whatsapp regarding delivery days, times, being home or not (our default delivery option is “Drop in my postbox”!) etc. And another cool thing is that every subscriber automatically gets access to free merch and coffees from any one of our venues. Follow @apothecary_coffee_co on Instagram for updates.
Can I visit the roastery?
The roastery isn’t open to the public, but you can find us in person: at our café inside Laude Classic Cars on Buitengracht Street (Mon–Sat), at Echium Park Markets every second Saturday, and at the Big Bay Lifesaving Club every Sunday morning. Follow us on Instagram to catch us live.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards plus EFT, processed securely via PayFast. Your details are never stored on our site.
What is your returns policy?
Due to the perishable nature of coffee, we can’t accept returns on opened products. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us within 7 days and we’ll make it right. See our full Returns Policy.
Do you offer wholesale or B2B supply?
We do — and we love it. We supply businesses across Cape Town from neighbourhood cafés and churches to professional services firms who take their coffee seriously. Get in touch and we’ll put something together for you.
