New to proper filter coffee? Here’s why a Moccamaster is special
Most cheap drip machines fail at the one thing that matters: water temperature. Coffee extracts properly only in a fairly narrow band (around 92–96°C / 196–205°F). Budget machines rarely get there, so they under-extract and give you weak, sour, or flat coffee no matter how good the beans are.
The Moccamaster uses a copper heating element that hits and holds that ideal brewing temperature, then showers the water evenly over the grounds and brews a full carafe in about 4–6 minutes — the same principles a barista uses for a hand pour-over, but automated and repeatable every single morning. It’s certified by both the European Coffee Brewing Centre (ECBC) and the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) for meeting the “golden cup” brewing standard, which very few home machines achieve.

Tips for the new owner
Pair it with freshly ground coffee at a medium (filter) grind — one of the grinders in this same range, like the Baratza Encore, is a perfect match — and use a good paper filter.
